Okay, we are just baffled at what to do with this set, but I know we have some friends that are gonna find this pretty interesting – so let’s get into it!

 

In the days prior to the existence of the direct comic market (we’re talking about the 1960s and earlier) it was common practice for comic sellers to tear off the covers to their unsold magazines and return them to the publisher for a credit.   The stripped magazines were then disposed of – or often times, they were just given to kids in the family.

 

Last week, a customer brought a small box of comic books from DC and MARVEL, all of which were missing their covers.   They are otherwise generally intact, but have the amount of age, brittleness and wear that you would expect to see from books that were treated like thks.   But due to the sheer historic value of some of the books, we know they can’t just be tossed out.

 

Among these books is TALES OF SUSPENSE #39, the very first appearance of Iron Man.    Even at a 0.5 condition, this book’s grade is in the $200 range.  

 

We personally would be surprised if someone would purchase a coverless book for $200, even one as significant as this one.   So instead of slapping a price tag on these books, we’re going to let the market dictate how much their worth by starting this auction at $25, and letting the buyers decide.   There is no reserve price, highest bid will take these books home.

All books are in approximately 0.5 to 1.0 condition.  They are intact, but have had their covers stripped.
We realized that books that have had their covers stripped are actually considered only 0.5 condition, not 1.0.   The rest of the description is accurate.  Good luck, bidders!
