Superman Superhero DC Comics Action Comics 1st Day Cover Superman Stamp...
On September 10, 1998, the USPS issued a set of fifteen different stamps to commemorate the decade of the 1930's. One of these events was the creation of the superhero, SUPERMAN, making his appearance in 1938. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the Superman stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Cleveland, Ohio), on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark designed and used to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.' This fifteen stamp set was a part of an even larger 150 stamp set called Celebrate the Century - made up of fifteen stamps for each decade.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features 'The Man of Steel' lifting a car to save the life of a man trapped under it. The company that produced this cover, in addition to creating separate artwork for all 150 stamps, has also written a brief commentary about Superman, which we've included.
Double matted in red & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
