Robert Crumb Zap Comix #7 "R. Crumb Presents R. Crumb" Complete 3-Page Story Original Art (Print Mint, 1974). Robert Crumb's comics are populated with a wild assortment of crazy characters -- Mr. Natural, Fritz the Cat, Mr. Snoid, Shuman the Human -- but none more crazy and colorful than R. Crumb himself! In fact, this is a tradition that stretches back to his pre-fame days, when he would add little drawings of himself within letters sent to friends like Marty Pahls and Mike Britt. In this three-pager, Crumb fills up 35 panels with very little to say; in desperation, he winds up singing about trees. Crumb really was running out of things to say in the mid-1970s, when the demand for his work grew to the point to where he was dangerously close to burning himself out. Fortunately, he got his "mojo" back with the help of his new love, Aline Kominsky, and a happier home life. The artwork is in ink on three sketchbook pages, each with an approximate image area of 8" x 12"; each page is matt ed and framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 16.25" x 20.25". Other than minor handling along the edges, the art condition is Excellent. This story was featured in Yeah, But Is It Art?, a deluxe museum catalog book of R. Crumb art published in Germany, in 2004. From the Eric Sack Collection.
