Description

Published in 1964, Marvel Tales Annual No. 1 is an oversize book that combines six Marvel origin comics into one collectible issue. This comic reprints the origin stories of Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, Giant-Man, Thor, Nick Fury, and Iron Man, all of whom appear on the cover.

The cover art for Marvel Tales was done by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, and the collection was put together under the editorial direction of Stan Lee. Spider-Man’s origin story is the first one in the book, a reprint from the Amazing Fantasy series. Military innovator Tony Stark becomes Iron Man in this reprinted story from Marvel’s Tales of Suspense. Stark creates the iconic suit after being taken prisoner in Vietnam, and uses it to escape his captors, and then dispose of their menace. The last origin story in this issue of Marvel Tales belongs to Thor, reprinted from Journey Into Mystery. Donald Blake, a doctor from the US, is in Norway when he uncovers a cave that unlocks ancient powers and transforms him into the Norse god of thunder.

This copy has some remaining cover gloss but small chips from the lower corner and some tearing along the spine. Inside pages show yellowing, but corners are generally sharp.

Will consider international sale if buyer pays full cost of shipping.
