Description

This item is a wonderful original, hand drawn and signed ink cartoon, by Julius Kroll, depicting Mao Tse-tung , commonly referred to as Chairman Mao...signed by Kroll at lower right, 6x6, mounted to larger sheet, else in overall good condition.

Julius Kroll caricatured for a Berlin newspaper until he left in 1933, wary of the rising power of Adolph Hitler and the political harm he may have done with his cartooning. He emigrated to America in 1933 and was quickly utilized by the Saturday Evening Post, the New York Times and various other newspapers wanting his unique style of caricature.

While he drew almost every political figure in the World for these publications, his real fancy was Hollywood. Kroll was very well known among the Hollywood crowd and was welcomed by many who wanted to be drawn in caricature. Kroll produced thousands of great caricatures including Presidents from Franklin Roosevelt through Nixon, and others from Malcom X to the Beatles, and everyone in between.

Mao Tse-tung and commonly referred to as Chairman Mao (December 26, 1893 – September 9, 1976), was a Chinese Communist revolutionary and the founding father of the People's Republic of China, which he governed as Chairman of the Communist Party of China from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976. His Marxist-Leninist theories, military strategies and political policies are collectively known as Marxism-Leninism-Maoism or Mao Zedong Thought.
