Julius Kroll caricatured for a Berlin newspaper until he left in 1933, wary of the rising power of Adolph Hitler and the political harm he may have done with his cartooning. He emigrated to America in 1933 and was quickly utilized by the Saturday Evening Post, the New York Times and various other newspapers wanting his unique style of caricature. While he drew almost every political figure in the World for these publications, his real fancy was Hollywood. Kroll was very well known among the Hollywood crowd and was welcomed by many who wanted to be drawn in caricature. Kroll produced thousands of great caricatures including Presidents from Franklin Roosevelt through Nixon, and others from Malcom X to the Beatles, and everyone in between.
Thomas Edmund Dewey (March 24, 1902 – March 16, 1971) was the 47th Governor of New York (1943–1954). In 1944 he was the Republican candidate for President, but lost to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in the closest of Roosevelt's four presidential elections. In 1948 he was again the Republican candidate for President, but lost to the incumbent President, Harry S. Truman, in one of the greatest upsets in presidential election history.
