This auction is for:
Original Desperate Dan artwork from Dandy comic #334 - 1946
We regret this is a local pick up auction only but there are collection / possible delivery options below.
Original Dudley Watkins artwork from the Beano and Dandy comics is rare and this piece from 1946 is extra special as it was destined for the Christmas issue - indeed it appeared as the full strip on page 2.
Lovely festive story featuring Dan's nephew Danny who arrives at Dan and Aunt Aggie's house for Christmas Eve . Rivalry between the two 'lads' causes Danny to be sent to his room, but being a tough kid himself, Danny crafts knitting needles out of telegraph poles and makes a huge Christmas stocking. Uncle Dan duly obliges as Father Christmas, nearly gets stuck in the chimney and ends up trapped in the stocking with all the presents. Danny beats his Uncle to Christmas dinner but it all ends well as they both tuck into a giant Christmas pud!
The artwork, drawn on artboard using indian ink, measures 21 x 15 inches and it has been professionally framed with wooden frame, cream mountboard and glass front.
We have shown 3 pictures of the strip in Dandy comic #334, for reference purposes only. Please note this auction is just for the framed artwork and not the comic.
This has been in our own personal collection since 2007 but now is the time to move it on.
We regret that due to the item being framed, heavy and fragile due to the glass, this item is for UK customers only who can collect the item from us.
We will be exhibiting at a Comic Mart in London on Sunday Dec 7th, as above - you are welcome to collect from there if you wish with prior payment or cash on the day. There may be scope for us to deliver the framed artwork in mid December along the Sussex to Manchester corridor, via Birmingham (M23, M25 Heathrow, M40, M6) for a small fee.
Please view the picture/s of this item above and email with any questions.
