Dynamite presents the crossover no one thought they would ever see – The Evil Dead’s Ash and Darkman - as we present Darkman vs. The Army of Darkness! Two of Spider-Man Director Sam Raimi's most famous creations finally meet as Darkman battles Ash and the Deadites from The Army of Darkness!

Dr. Peyton Westlake was a brilliant scientist working on a temporary synthetic skin to help burn victims. A confrontation with a greedy businessman and his gangsters leaves Westlake’s lab destroyed, his face horribly scarred, body burned and unable to feel pain. Using the synthetic skin to appear as almost anyone, Peyton exacts his revenge upon those who took his life from him. Because he is no longer Peyton Westlake… He is Darkman.

Ash Williams was a store clerk who was magically transported - along with his beat-up Oldsmobile - to the brutal battlefields of the 14th century where he quickly assumed power and united his band of medieval knights against the dreaded Army of the Dead. Now back in his own time Ash continues to battle the Deadites in a never-ending battle against the Necronomicon.

Story/Spoilers:

In issue # 1, The vigilante known as Darkman strives to protect the woman he used to love, a task that becomes more difficult when “The Book of the Dead” turns up. Suddenly an army of undead zombies walks the city, and when that happens, can Ash - the man with the metal hand - be far behind? Not surprisingly, he and Darkman do not immediately become fast friends.

Darkman/Dr. Peyton Westlake's former love Julie accidentally read the incantations of the Necronomicon, which unleashes a deadite infestation throughout the city and transforms Julie into the Deadite Queen. Helping her friend Brynne Kelly escape with the book, the pair use it to open a portal and summon the 'Legendary Hero' to them - which turns out to be Ash Williams. Teaming up, the trio take on the army of deadites - led by Darkman's deceased enemy Robert Durant - as they plan to use the book to help rid Julie of the evil inside her.

Next in issue # 2, Ash and Darkman fight against the hordes of undead taking control of the city. The only problem? The DeadQueen's ready to take them both on... and take them both down! Prepare for battle and prepare for blood!

Next in issue # 3, “Durant of the Dead”, The Deadqueen decides that Ash and Darkman are becoming a royal pain in her dead @$$, so she sets out to create her own special 'Army of Darkness!' And she calls forth from one particular gravesite, the burned and battered body of Robert G. Durant. Whoo-Boy, Darkman isn't going to like that!

The Queen of Darkness, inhabiting the body of Julia Hastings the deceased fiancé of Darkman, is successful in resurrecting Robert Durant. She seeks the Necronomicon that is in the possession of Ash, Darkman, and Hastings former assistant, Brynne Kelly. Durant agrees to help in taking them down. Durant soon discovers that the spell the Queen of Darkness has cast raises different varieties of Deadites and that physical trauma can change humans into Deadites. Durant takes over a television studio to put out the call to Darkman. Seeing Durant and the Deadites on television, Darkman and Ash make their way to the station. They soon find themselves overwhelmed by Deadites and must retreat. They soon find that the media and the Mayor have been converted and are covering up the invasion as they build a temple for the Queen. Kelly finds a spell in the Necronomicon that could possibly exorcise the Queen from Hastings body. This causes Ash to question his worth as he tells them how when his girlfriend, Linda, was possessed he simply killed her. He never thought there could've been a chance to save her. Kelly then tells him that Linda had a different infection and the spell wouldn't have worked on her. Realizing her death wasn't his fault, Ash is back and ready to take on the Deadite Army of Darkness with Darkman.

Finally in issue # 4, “The Temple of Darkness”, The Darkman Vs. the Army of Darkness crossover concludes here as Ash and Darkman fend off not only Deadite Durant and his Deadite guards, but The Deadqueen as well! Will our heroes be able to turn the undead tide in time to save the city... and the world?!

Ash, Darkman, and Kelly are headed toward the newly constructed temple of the Deadite. Darkman is hoping to save Julie, his deceased fiancé. Kelly adds that not only will they save Julie, but also the entire city with the incantation they got from the Necronomicon. Ash tries practicing to get the pronounciation correct. The recently re-animated Durant tries getting the location of Darkman. After a top mob boss named Barry says tells him he doesn't know, Durant kills him. Barry comes back to life and now serves as one of Durant's chief lieutenants. Ash, Darkman, and Kelly try to sneak their way to the top of the temple. They are soon discovered by deadites but are told that they were to take them alive. This allows Darkman and Ash to cut loose. At one point, Darkman's jacket catches on fire. Ash, using his quick thinking and chainsaw, chops off a deadites head and uses the squirting blood as a fire extinguisher. More deadites come to attack. Durant tries to cuddle up to Julie, the Queen of Darkness when they are interupted. His men tell him that they have captured Darkman and his two friends. It is soon discovered that the three that have been captured are really fellow deadites. Darkman used his skin/mask tech to cover the deadites' faces. Darkman, now appearing as a deadite, and Ash start a surprise attack as Kelly begins the incantaion. The spell is working as the dead return to their dead state. Durant dies...again. The Queen of Darkness seems to be separated from Julie as Darkman catches her unconscious body. The temple begins to self-destruct. Julie is fine and, unfortunately, is reunited with her new boyfriend. Darkman says he's okay with this. She made a new life and he wanted her to return to it. As Darkman goes off to sulk on his own. Ash tries to make a move on Kelly. He suggests starting off to get some cheeseburgers since it's been a while since he's had a good on. Kelly notices that he is starting to fade. The spell that brought him there is also being reversed. Ash grabs her and takes a little "sugar" from her as he disappears. Darkman and Kelly are left alone.
