This is a wonderful higher-grade copy of ACTION COMICS #37 published by DC COMICS in 1941. This issue features the first appearance of CONGO BILL in ACTION COMICS where he stayed until issue #259 (1960) when he moved over to ADVENTURE COMICS. Congo Bill is easily one of the longest running back-up features in ACTION COMICS and is still around in today's DC Universe. Please note that Congo Bill first appeared in MORE FUN COMICS #56 where he stayed for around 10 issues before moving over to his more permanent home in ACTION COMICS. This is NOT the first appearance of Congo Bill, just the first appearance in ACTION COMICS.

This lovely comic book, that is almost 80-years-old, feels and looks so fresh and clean that the experience of holding it in hand might actually give you a sense of what buying a new comic book off the newsstands in 1941 felt like. I've thought many times over the years about having this book graded and slabbed but the experience of flipping through it is so sublime that I've never had the nerve to seal it up in a plastic case. It's a wonderful GOLDEN AGE DC Comic and you don't see many from this era that actually have that "new comic" feel.

Condition notes: I'm calling it a FN+ 6.5 although it was sold to me by a prominent comic book dealer as a 7.0 F/VF. There is no restoration that I can detect. The book is super clean and bright inside and out. Excellent cover gloss. There is a dust shadow along the spine but not too bad. Interior pages are off-white to white and have a fresh, crisp feel to them. The interior inks and colors really pop! There is a name scrawled in pencil on the front cover but I've never found that it detracts much from this book's overall beauty. No missing pieces, tears, or writing/stains other than that name on the cover. Staples are in good shape and both are attached although the top staple has pulled away from the back cover, which can be seen in the pics. Please check out the detailed photos to make up your own mind on this book's condition.
