Hello, Marvel Comics super-heroes! This is the EXTREMELY RARE SIX FOOT TALL 1966 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN MMMS Merry Marching Society door poster. This scarce 6 ft tall poster features artwork by STEVE DITKO, who was the co-creator of Spidey back in 1962 in Amazing Fantasy 15. This larger than life-size silk screen poster measures 72 inches tall by 32 or 33 inches across. It was originally offered via mail order for $1.99 if I recall correctly, and was seen in advertisements in 1965, 1966, and 1967 silver age Marvel comic books. Spider-man was to be the first in a series of door-sized Marvel superheroes silkscreen posters, but unfortunately, t were never any other posters made after Spidey. Can you imagine what the other Marvel heroes would have looked like as door posters? What a shame. Anyway, this poster features the ultimate Spider-man pose, and this classic image has been used over the years for toys, for a '67 puzzle, for the Amazing Spider-man comic cover logo (redrawn by John Romita Sr), etc.
This is the RAREST AMAZING SPIDER-MAN POSTER OF ALL TIME.
Just to clarify, this is not the smaller 42 x 29 inch Personality Posters version that shows Spidey by Marie Severin (which has always been mistaken for Ditko's artwork throughout the 60's, 70's, and 80's). This is 100 percent Ditko. NOR is this the little 17 x 11 inch '66 Spidey poster that was part of an 8 pack posters kit by the Merry Marvel Marching Society that showed the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, etc. And furthermore, this vintage 1960's giant-size poster predates the 25 or 26 set of 1971 Marvel Third Eye blacklight posters by 5 years, it predates the 9 or 10 set of 1970 Marvelmania posters by 4 years, and is MUCH rarer! The six ft Spidey poster was released when Marvel mania was still in it's infancy and was no doubt printed in small quantities. AND, t was talk that some of these posters are different from one another because the web of Spider-man's right arm had been forgotten and had to be added by hand by the printers or possibly by Steve Ditko himself. That has not been conclusively proven.
I would grade this spectacular Spider-man poster as being in good or good/very good condition, if it were a comic book I was grading. It's got some creases, some crinkles, and has had a tear mended from the back that extends from the edge of the poster to Spider-man's right ankle (see photo). It doesn't change how very scarce it is one bit, and it is amazing that any of these posters still exist at all. Because it's a rolled poster, it'll ship rolled to you in a VERY tough shipping tube. The buyer agrees to pay all shipping and insurance costs (see below), and if paying by Paypal from a CONFIRMED PAYPAL ADDRESS ONLY.
