ITEM: original Bob Clarke illustration for a Mad Magazine product parody. Has wording overlay that is loose from the illustration board. Produced on sturdy board.

CONDITION: Board is in Fine with light corner wear. Overlay is in very good condition with it being loose from board and curling with corner paper loss to bottom margin.

MEASUREMENT: 20 x 24 1/2 inches

Item History: I obtained this item in December 2017. The item came directly from Bob Clarke's estate in Seaford, Delaware.  I acquired a large amount of one-of-a-kind material including magazine illustrations, hand drawn cards for his wife, paintings, and more. BIOGRAPHY: Robert J. "Bob" Clarke (January 25, 1926 – March 31, 2013) was an American illustrator whose work appeared in advertisements and MAD Magazine. Clarke's style in MAD was distinctive, showing a mastery of line and an eye for the humorous side of things. Clarke's earliest professional job was at the age of 17, as an uncredited assistant on the Ripley's Believe it Or Not comic strip. Years later, he illustrated MAD's occasional "Believe It or Nuts!" parody and several years of Spy vs Spy stories. After two years with Ripley, Clarke joined the army, where he worked for the European edition of Stars and Stripes and met his wife. In his first year at MAD, Clarke illustrated 24 separate articles; he would eventually draw more than 600. He produced work for the magazine from 1956 to 2010. Of Clarke's 600+ MAD articles, his favorite was "A MAD Look at the Joys of Scuba Diving".
