Up for auction is this platinum era comic book titled THE MUTT AND JEFF CARTOONS by BUD FISHER. Copyright 1910 by Star Publishing Co. and H.C. Fisher. Published by Ball Publishing Company, Boston. Drawn by American cartoonist HARRY CONWAY FISHER (1885-1954), who signed his work Bud Fisher. His newspaper comic strip MUTT AND JEFF first appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1907 under the title A.MUTT (Augustus Mutt). The title of the strip was changed when Mutt's sidekick Jeff was added in 1908, and also syndicated by William Randolph Hearst's King Features and moved to his San Francisco Examiner newspaper - becoming a national success. After a dispute with Hearst, Fisher changed to the Wheeler Syndicate in 1915. Fisher became a very wealthy man as one of the highest paid cartoonists of his time.
This hardcover book has 66 pages. Comic strip illustrations are in black & white. Nice photo of Fisher on title page, along with a caricatured self-portrait. Very nice condition for age. Book measures about 5 3/16" x 15 9/16". Covers have expected light wear on corners, edges and surfaces (see photos). Cloth spine. Cover illustration includes both title characters. Boards have separated from endpapers as is often found on this type of book, but pages are all tight in stapled binding and clean. Short pencil notation on front endpaper.
